Contrast section inspired by the famous Allegretto: hypnotic minor-key pulse that builds from pianissimo strings to fortissimo climax. Hypnotic dotted rhythm in minor key. Starts very soft with muted strings, gradually builds intensity, brass and timpani enter, reaches a dramatic climax, then recedes.

Thematic development and counterpoint. Motifs pass between strings, woodwinds and brass. Modulation, growing energy and drama.

Return of the vivace dance theme, fuller and more triumphant than before.
